The Remedy Diner: A dose of healthy eats
Apr 29, 2010
They say in here you’ll find a cure for what ails you. If you are suffering from a need for vegan or vegetarian fare, breakfast served day or night, or a special alcoholic concoction, then check into this infirmary immediately. This locally owned downtown restaurant offers more than you'd expect from a typical corner diner. At just over a year old, The Remedy Diner serves low key, affordable and alternative dining options set in a small space with a kitschy energy. Drop in any time and chill at the friendly bar with your book, and order up one of their alcoholic potions, grab a bite for lunch, or settle in for dinner with your friends after a long day.
The menu comprises a list of traditional as well as vegan and vegetarian sandwiches, salad options, breakfast combinations and homemade desserts (the pies are made by the owner's mother, to be exact) to feed your needs, mostly all priced under $10. Many vegan and vegetarian diners have already put this on their favorites list of weekly restaurants to frequent. Currently the sole restaurant purveyor of Daiya cheese in North Carolina, Remedy utilizes this tasty, dairy-free goodness in a number of its vegan specialties. Try the Veggie Meatball Sub or the Vegan Reuben for a different spin on a typical meat lover’s choice. Another favorite of the vegan variety is the Vegan Buffalo “Chicken” Wings served with homemade vegan ranch dressing.
If you’re cultivating your own personal surge of creativity and still want to skew healthy, go with the Design Your Own Salad option on the menu. Start with the base of romaine, spinach, or spring mix, and then choose from a myriad of toppings to satisfy your craving for homegrown freshness. On the flip side, if you want Remedy to think creatively for you in the beverage category, then surrender to one of their specialty cocktails like “The Snake Oil”.
Just in case you need other inviting reasons to visit The Remedy Diner, consider these highlights -- daily drink specials are featured, the various music tracks playing in the background are entertaining, and the rotating exhibits of local art displayed on the walls keep the vibe interesting. Drop in and get your dose of sustenance, relaxation and creativity all in one shot. Chances are you’ll walk out feeling great.
HelloRaleigh Tip: Try Remedy for a super casual Saturday lunch/brunch option. Not only are their Bloody Mary’s delicious, but they are also on special on Saturdays for $5.
