Position yourself within earshot of downtown Raleigh this week from Thursday (9/9/10) through Saturday (9/11/10) and without a doubt you’ll hear the energizing sounds of the Hopscotch Music Festival.
Presented by the Independent Weekly, this wildly anticipated music fest debuts the most ambitious music showcase in the area to date, spotlighting local, national, and international bands – a total of 120 to be exact – at ten downtown venues over the course of three packed nights.
The idea goes something like this: Skip from club to club (all within a tight several block radius), sample music across just about every musical genre imaginable (think metal, then alt-country, followed by a little hip-hop), and soak up the emerging downtown Raleigh nightlife scene.
To date, the three-day wrist bands (the access pass to all venues over the course of the three days) have sold out, but tickets still remain for the outdoor City Plaza showcase on Friday and Saturday nights featuring headliners Panda Bear, Broken Social Scene, and the Rosebuds (Fri. night 9/10), and Public Enemy, No Age, and the Love Language (Sat. night 9/11).
In addition to the City Plaza shows, according to the Hopscotch website, a very limited number of individual tickets for the other participating venues may be available on the eve of each show at the individual venues, capacity permitting, on a case by case basis for $20.
Participating venues include the Pour House Music Hall, Lincoln Theatre, Berkeley Café, Tir Na Nog, The Hive @ the Busy Bee, Slim’s Downtown, Five Star, Deep South, and Kings.
There will be plenty of free musical energy to soak up around downtown starting Thurs. afternoon at area bars, while the Raleigh City Museum will play host to panel discussions with music industry notables. For up to the minute information on free events including day parties and panel discussions, a full schedule of the band itineraries per venue, and to purchase tickets, visit www.hopscotchmusicfest.com.
