Humble Pie: Eclectic Dining in the Heart of Raleigh's Warehouse District

Consider this scenario: You’ve got a craving for oven roasted mahi mahi, your friend is in the mood for braised short rib tostadas, and the couple joining you for a brief bite is interested in appetizers and cocktails prior to heading on to another engagement.  Where to go?  Be sure Humble Pie is at the top of your short list of choice dining establishments that fill this bill.

Featuring a menu that rotates about three times a year, Humble Pie offers twenty-five appetizer and entrée items plated for sharing, or as it has become known, tapas style dining.  The flavorful offerings range from vegetarian to meat selections incorporating American Continental, Mediterranean, and Pan-Asian flair sure to tempt most taste buds.

Set in a repurposed warehouse in the center of the Warehouse District, its atmosphere is as eclectic as its menu.  Dim lighting enhanced by strings of white and colorful hanging lights stream down from the lofty exposed beams, while a vibrant mural hangs above the bar and is offset by the surrounding colored walls and tall, framed windows.

Arguably even more inviting than the rustic interior is the spacious and equally ambient outdoor patio.  Partially canopied and also lit by strings of tiny hanging lights, Humble Pie boasts one of the largest contained outdoor dining areas in downtown Raleigh with about fifteen tables suitable for intimate dining as well as accommodating larger parties.

And did somebody say TIKI bar?  The newest addition to the popular patio is this fun perch where locals gather and indulge in nightly drink specials including $5 Thursday margaritas or $6 Friday pina coladas.

Once you experience an evening at Humble Pie, be sure to make it back for their Sunday brunch.  One of the original downtown restaurants to serve up brunch, this longstanding favorite does a mean steak and eggs priced at $14, and it offers ten additional items ranging from $7 to $9.

Whether you choose to call it tapas, family style, or simply small plates, the offerings are diverse and sharing is encouraged.  So, order up an array of plates, graze, and remember to save room for dessert.  Don’t fret; you can share that, too!

HelloRaleigh Tip:  This is one hot spot particularly on First Fridays during the art gallery crawl.  Take in some exhibits at the local surrounding galleries, and make Humble Pie your drinking and dining destination.  If you are on a time schedule, consider making reservations, otherwise there may be a wait.
